Basic Radiation Protection Training

This radiation protection course provides an introduction to the hazards and risks arising from working with ionising radiations. It advises on good working practice and demonstrates methods by which exposure to ionising radiations can be kept to a minimum. It is intended for operators carrying out work for the first time in radiation controlled areas and sites where radioactive materials or radiation generators are present. It can also be used as a refresher course for workers returning to site.

The Ionising Radiations Regulations 1999 states the following:

Every employer shall ensure that those of his employees who are engaged in work with ionising radiation are given appropriate training in the field of radiation protection and receive such information and instruction as is suitable and sufficient for them…

This course is available in two versions:

  1. A half-day bare-bones course for operators entering radiation controlled areas (RCAs) owned by a radiation employer (e.g. a nuclear site operator) but those operators not carrying out any work with ionising radiations themselves;
  2. A one-day course for the employees and contractors of a radiation employer.

The course is modular and therefore specific plant / site information on the one day course can be included on request. Note that version 2 of the course implies that the radiation employer will also be required to Appoint an RPS to supervise such works. Please Contact Us to help you decide which version of the course is suitable for you.

There is a short test at the end of the session. Every delegate receives course hand-outs and an attendance certificate.
